My car keys (embarrassing)
by posted 04/13/2021

Dear United,

Well this is embarrassing. For the girls who were at practice today, I may possibly have accidentally put my car keys in one of their black soccer bags. I noticed early in the practice that there was a black soccer bag on the sideline that looked a lot like mine. It appeared to be a club soccer bag.

To make a long story short, when it came time to drive home, I couldn't open my car and noticed my keys were missing. I'm wondering if I may have accidentally zipped my keys into one of the girls' soccer bags. If any player who was at practice today and has a black bag wouldn't mind looking, I would be grateful.

So sorry to bother, and looking forward to tomorrow's practice.

Game Saturday!
by posted 04/09/2021

Good morning United,

I am excited about our first game tomorrow, Saturday. We are home on the Pequitside lower field, at 11:45 a.m. against the Wayland Tigers. Please arrive by 11:15 a.m. for warmups.

Weather is supposed to be great, and nearly 70 degrees by game time, so please have your players hydrate in the morning and bring plenty of water. We may only have four or five substitutes, so the girls will have to play strong for longer periods of time.

Please do let me know if your player cannot make it to the game so we can adjust the lineups accordingly. Some of you have already done that, so thank you. Also, when possible, I would ask parents to let me or the other coaches know if your daughter cannot attend a practice. We will fully understand, but knowing who will or won't attend helps us with drill planning. Our practices have gotten off to a strong start, and the girls are bringing a wonderful sense of enthusiasm and desire to play and improve.

The league has sent coaches a message on COVID protocols, some of which I will share below. Bottom line, while a few things have eased, many protocols remain in place and need to be followed by players, coaches and spectators. They include:

- Masks - masks are to be worn at all times while at the field, be it on the spectators on the sidelines or the players / coaches on the field. Players will be allowed to remove their masks briefly when socially distanced to get a drink.
 - Social distancing - On the field, players will social distance as best possible within the games. On the sidelines all spectators are to be socially distanced (6ft) at all times.
 - Family members - In the Fall, protocol was slightly stricter and only allowed 1 parent / guardian per player. This season we still encourage to keep numbers low but if multiple members of the same family arrive they are to sit together and remain socially distanced from others. If siblings or other children are at the field (not playing soccer) they are to be with the parents / guardians at all times.

Again, thanks to the parents for all you are doing to support your players and United. We are looking forward to our first game, and a strong season.

Go United!

We have once again landed turf time at Canton High School tomorrow, Saturday, at 3 p.m. This is an optional practice. We had a great time last Saturday and hope to see as many girls as can make it tomorrow. The session will run from 3-4:15 p.m.

United Practice Schedule
by posted 03/28/2021

Hello United,

We had a good first session on the CHS turf Saturday in perfect weather. Also a really strongt turnout. We expected more rust than we actually saw, and for the most part the play was crisp. Thanks to all the girls who were able to make it.

I am emailing to let you know the practice schedule. I've set it up to accommodate as many players as possible, given various conflicts.

We will practice Tuesdays from 5 p.m.  to 6:10 p.m. and Wednesdays, normally from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Importantly, we have two different practice fields this season.

Tuesday at 5 p.m. will be at the Pequitside lower field, which is the 9 v. 9 field that we had games on last fall.

On Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. we will practice on Galvin Lower, Field B

It's been tricky this year (I happen to be the league's field scheduler) because we have access to fewer fields and the league is working in two practice shifts to ensure there is enough room for all the teams. COVD rules require that there be 20 minutes between sessions, so we need to finish our 5 p.m. sessions at 6:10 p.m. The 6:30 p.m. sessions will normally go to 7:45 p.m., but for the first two weeks we will end practice at 7:30 p.m. on account of darkness.

Also, the league president has indicated with today's rain there may be some question as to when the fields will be in condition to start practice. I am at this point expecting we will practice this Tuesday, March 30 at 5 p.m. at Pequitside Lower, but will let you know if anything changes.

You can log into, and under TEAMS make your way to Girls Grade 5 United and click on schedule if you want to take a look.

Please remember to make sure players have balls and plenty of air in those balls. Also, if you still have the red, blue and yellow-ish green pinnies from last year, if those could stay in their bags that would be great.

Looking forward to a strong season of practice and a fun season together.
